    SCMA has issued a call for abstracts for the 2008 Annual Conference and Membership Meeting to be held Oct. 27-29 in Austin. Submissions are due May 1.
  • April 2008: TCEQ Draft Rules Posted
    The staff drafted rules for injecting desalination concentrate and nonhazardous drinking water residuals are now posted on the TCEQ website.
  • February 2008: Spring Conference Feb. 20-22
    SCMA's 2008 spring conference was held Feb. 20-22, 2008, in El Paso, at the nation's largest brackish groundwater desalination plant. "Desalination: State of the Art" attracted more than 100 participants. Click here for a summary of the event, plus photos.

  • January 2008: TWDB Seeks Desal Proposals

    The Texas Water Development Board seeks proposals for brackish groundwater desalination demonstration projects. Projects should provide tangible examples of the use of water desalination technologies and concentrate management strategies that can serve as replicable models for implementing small scale brackish groundwater desalination projects, showcase technological advances and/or promising strategies to increase the efficiency of waste desalination and concentrate management processes, and/or assist with the training of operators of desalination facilities.     SCMA now offers online registration for events, starting with the spring conference in El Paso. Membership applications and renewals can also be completed online.

    SCMA Board of Directors Nov. 15 elected new officers: president Bill Norris, NRS Consulting Engineers; vice-president David Derr (Afton Pumps); Treasurer Stuart Mitchell (Hydranautics); and Secretary Tony Bennett (TCB/AECOM). Many thanks to past president John Bruciak (Brownsville PUB) for 2 years of service as SCMA chief.

    SCMA invites membrane professionals and practitioners to submit abstracts for its 2007 annual conference and membership meeting, Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in San Antonio, TX.

    Workshop Early Registration Deadline Extended to Jan. 19, 2007
    In the spirit of the holiday season, the SCMA Board has extended to Jan. 19, 2007, the early registration deadline for the Feb. 21-22 Technology Transfer Workshop on "Piloting Membrane Facilities." Save $100 off registration fees and get the latest on the ins and outs of piloting membrane technology from the perspectives of operators, engineers, regulators, suppliers, and vendors.   • November 2006: Grants available for brackish groundwater desal demonstration projects in Texas
    TWDB is requesting proposals for brackish groundwater demonstration projects to be funded as part of the agency's Brackish Groundwater Desalination Initiative. Proposals are due Dec. 7; a pre-submittal meeting is scheduled for 10 am Oct. 24 in Room 513-F, Stephen F. Austin Building, 1700 North Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas.

    At its Oct. 11 meeting, the Board of Directors elected the following officers:

  • September 2006: SCDA is now the South Central Membrane Association
    The new name - approved by members at the Sept. 14 meeting in Fort Worth - better reflects the focus of the organization, which is dedicated to supporting all types of membrane technology in water treatment operations.

    Members also elected a Board of Directors and accepted the by-laws.
