2008 Spring Conference - Desalination: State of the Art
February 20-22, 2008
SCMA's 2008 spring conference was held Feb. 20-22, 2008, in El Paso, at the El Paso Water Utilities' TecH2O center, adjacent to the nation's largest brackish groundwater desalination plant. The event, which attracted more than 100 participants, was focused on "Desalination: State of the Art." The conference kicked off with a welcome by Ed Archuleta, president and chief executive officer of El Paso Water Utilities, and opening remarks by the Honorable William Callegari, Texas House of Representatives.
Highlights of the program included case studies on brackish and seawater RO facilities, presentations on membrane integrity testing, chemical dosing and applications, pretreatment, fouling and control, and more, plus hands-on training for operators at the plant.
All but one of the participants returning surveys said the conference increased their understanding of membrane treatment. The one holdout said "I'm not here to learn but to network." There were lots of productive opportunities for that!
